Sockburn (Co. Durham)

It was here, in the 14th century, that Sir John Conyers slew the Sockburn Worm using the Falchion which is on display in the Treasury of Durham Cathedral. However, not before the worm had ravaged the area devouring all livestock in the neighbourhood and also many who tried to slay it.
